It's so nice to be back! After taking an unintentional months long break from blogging I am happy to be returning and so excited to share some major changes going on.
While I've been away the world has made an even bigger mess of itself. Well, at least it has here in Canada. Inflation has made groceries bills skyrocket, rental prices are through the roof, and our health care system has fallen to pieces. It seems that the pandemic was a catalyst for a complete alteration in how we live and I realized pretty quickly that if you don't adapt and think outside the box you're just not going to make it. That's the case for people like myself at least.
I've had an idea for a long time now and with everything going on the time is finally right for me to jump in with both feet. This girl is going mobile! Me, my three boys, my dog and my half a billion cats (a slight exaggeration, but you can learn more about them here) are moving out of our 2200 sq ft semi-detached into an RV and hitting the road! Sounds crazy right? That's because it is. But I'm honestly kind of mad that I've waited this long to do it. I've been planning tour bus interiors since I was in middle school. Seriously. My plan had been to become a singing superstar good enough to give Britney Spears a run for her money! So if I was going to be spending so much time on tour I needed an awesome tour bus to spend my days in. And after seeing the tour bus in Spice World I was obsessed with designing the most incredible, out of the norm tour bus to ever hit the roads of North America.
Obviously that didn't pan out. But my interest was fully renewed when I discovered the skoolie community; a group of out of the box thinkers who traded in their brick and mortar lifestyle for a bus that they convert into their full time homes and travel as far as the wheels will take them. I wanted that life so badly, but kind of thought it was just a pipe dream. Isn't it funny how difficult it is to accept leaving behind societal norms even when you don't fit into those norms in the first place?
Then we started thinking about moving. I had originally moved to this area thinking it would be easier to see family I have here, but that didn't happen. Instead I just moved even further away from our friends and other loved ones into a place that didn't suit us or our lifestyle. So I started looking for places to rent closer to the people we wanted around us, but the housing market is an absolute disaster where we are. To move anywhere at all would mean paying the exact same amount in rent (which was already at surpassing the top of our budget due to inflation) for a one bedroom basement apartment and no yard. Not only was I not willing to get a worse home for the same or even more than what I was already paying, but living without no green space was an absolute no.
I started toying around with the skoolie idea a little bit, but it started sounding better and better the more I thought about it. I realized that I had paid well over $100,000 in rent over the past five years while I was in school and had nothing to show for it. I was paying the mortgage of these landlords while they did nothing and they had a paid off house in the end while I still had nothing. But because I was receiving lump sums for my living expenses every few months I could buy a bus outright and reduce our living expenses by actual thousands of dollars every month while living a life I thought was only a dream! Why the h*** would I keep renting?!
So as of October 2022 we will be living my dream! I'm still deciding between a bus conversion or RV, but it's all happening fast! And I'm so excited to share our journey to making this happen! I can't wait!!
Remember to follow me on Twitter and Instagram where I will be posting updates and progress at least once a day, probably more. I'll be posting here for the BIG updates, but that's the place you want to be to really follow our progress!
Sending you all lots of love, happiness, and positive vibes!
